Type G / 230V Water Timer Install in the UAE (5-Minute Hub Setup)

The UAE electrical standard for homes is Type G (BS 1363) at nominally 230V / 50Hz. That is good news for British-origin smart irrigation hubs: you are not fighting EU Schuko or US plugs — you are plugging into the same three-pin pattern used across Dubai and Abu Dhabi villas.
What goes where
- Indoor gateway / WiFi hub: mains Type G, indoors, dry, preferably on the wall facing the garden.
- Outdoor tap timer: usually AA batteries (not a random outdoor socket). Keep the valve unit splash-rated and shaded from direct noon sun when possible.
- Tap thread: standard BSP outdoor taps (commonly 3/4" / 1") — most kits screw on without a plumber.
Five-minute install checklist
- Close the outdoor tap. Screw the timer hand-tight onto the BSP thread; add the supplied washer if included. Open slowly and check for drips.
- Insert fresh alkaline AA batteries in the outdoor unit.
- Plug the indoor gateway into a Type G wall socket (not a temporary outdoor reel). Avoid putting a non-IP indoor hub outside — Dubai heat, dust, and humidity punish indoor-rated plastics.
- Join 2.4 GHz WiFi in the app (Smart Life / Tuya-class for Johgee; follow the kit’s app for RainPoint).
- Create a dawn programme first (4–6 AM). Add a dusk lawn top-up only if your grass needs a second cycle in peak summer.
Outdoor sockets — do not improvise
If you truly need a permanent outdoor outlet for other gear, UAE practice calls for weatherproof IP-rated Type G hardware (often IP55–IP66 for exposed walls) — not an indoor plate under a plastic bag. For water timers, the cleaner design is: mains hub indoors + battery valve at the tap.

Johgee 4-Zone RF — Type G gateway + RF outdoor valves for multi-zone villas.
RainPoint 2-Zone WiFi — compact hub kit for holiday watering.
Electrical note: Type G / 230V / 50Hz is the UAE domestic baseline (BS 1363 family). For any new outdoor socket work, use a licensed electrician and IP-rated fittings.
